Abercrombie & Kent handled our touring and logistics. They have been operating in Egypt for decades and know the ins and outs of the country like no other on-the-ground operators. We almost missed one of our flights (my fault!) and were told the plane was held for us because we were traveling with A&K. We were always with their guides and drivers during our trip and it gave us a great sense of security.
Egypt is a fascinating trip for both adults and older children since almost all of us have studied Egyptian history at some point.
The main Egyptian sites (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel) can be seen in 7-9 days.
October through April are the best months to visit. The summer heat can be oppressive.
A highlight of a trip to Egypt is a cruise on the Nile. A&K has their own boats which are lovely, have great cabins and delicious food. There are great hotels along the Nile as well, and on my first trip, I chose to stay in hotels instead of taking a cruise. But this trip, I loved seeing life on the river as we peacefully glided along and we were able to see temples and sites that you don't see if you stay on land.
