Capri
I often get asked by clients and friends what my favorite destination is, and I have a hard time answering that question because I adore traveling so much. I can find something to love about almost any place. However, I may finally have an answer to this question. I traveled to Capri, Italy with my husband and dear friends this past summer for a milestone birthday celebration and I am counting the days until I can return.
To me Capri is the definition of la dolce vita. The stunning natural beauty of the island (craggy cliffs, turquoise seas, colorful bougainvillea and vistas around every turn) is reason enough to visit. But add the chic beach clubs, hiking and boating options, picturesque towns, gorgeous gardens, delicious cuisine, lovely hotels, great people watching and you have a pretty perfect vacation spot in my opinion.
For Americans, Capri isn’t the easiest to get to, which I think is part of her allure. There is no airport on the island, so visitors must arrive by boat (or helicopter if you are really splurging). The easiest way to get there is to take a ferry from Naples, Sorrento or Amalfi. Summer is peak season in Capri and the island is very, very crowded with day trippers. The summer evenings are lovely once the day trippers have gone home. To avoid the crowds and still enjoy beach weather, May and September are great times to visit.
